Hope Is The Thing With Feathers

/

about

Emily Dickinson's classic poem lives on to inspire.

In August of 2019, I lost my 18-year-old son, Jonathan Sartain, to suicide. Even through this tragedy, I have found that peace, hope, and love are still mine. These are my gifts to him. I love him with all my heart. I forgive him freely and I release him, with no judgment, hard feelings, or sadness, because I love him and I want him to be free. Free of his struggles. Free of his sorrow. Free to fly and to know I love him completely and unconditionally, as I believe he loves me. I wish him only peace and happiness. Most of all, I know that because he is free and at peace, I too can be free and at peace. Making that choice is a gift death cannot take from us.

This song is my gift to the world. Please download it and share it with whoever you wish. You don't owe me a penny. I want to reassure you that, whatever happens, even if the bird seems very quiet for awhile, she is still there, in your soul. I promise you, she will sing again. Just hold on...just a few minutes more. When you believe they are yours, you too, will find you have hope, you are loved, you are free to enjoy these gifts, and you can be at peace.

lyrics

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune
Without the words
And never stops at all.
Hope never stops at all.

And sweetest in the gale is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land
And seen it on the strangest sea
But never, in extremity
It asked a crumb of me
Hope never asked a crumb of me

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune
Without the words
And never stops at all
Hope never stops at all
Hope never stops at all
Hope never stops at all
